Description
What kind of wine it is
Terlano Lagrein Tradition is a still red wine that showcases the Lagrein grape in its pure form. With its typical deep garnet red colour, it displays a harmonious and vinous profile with a full and velvety body. On the nose, it offers notes of cranberry and morello cherry, aromas of lilac and bay leaves, with hints of flint and chocolate. The palate reveals an elegant texture supported by refined tannins. Excellent after an hour of decanting, it enhances the flavours of mature cheeses and game, such as braised venison and beef roulades.
Where it comes from
The vineyards are located in the Terlano area, within the Alto Adige region, at an altitude of 250-290 metres. The roots delve into a sandy and permeable soil, with a strongly stony matrix. These geological features give the wine a distinct varietal identity and a well-defined structure. The local microclimate and carefully controlled yields allow the grapes to reach ideal phenolic ripeness. In this context, Lagrein develops its intense colour, reflecting the winegrowing vocation of the mountainous territory.
How it is produced
After manual harvesting and destemming, vinification begins with a slow fermentation at controlled temperature in steel tanks, accompanied by gentle handling of the must. The subsequent malolactic fermentation softens the palate and perfectly integrates its natural acidity. The maturation phase continues for seven to ten months in large wooden barrels, a choice that allows the tannins to round out while respecting the original fruit character. The result is a balanced and persistent red, an authentic expression of the work of Cantina Terlano.
History and Curiosities
Founded in 1893, Cantina Terlano is a pioneering South Tyrolean cooperative. Its Lagrein Tradition 2025 expresses the authenticity of the region, originating from grapes grown on sandy and stony soils between 250 and 290 metres above sea level. Under the expert guidance of oenologist Rudi Kofler, the manual harvest gives rise to a velvety and harmonious wine. Careful ageing in large wooden barrels enhances its refined tannins and enveloping aromas of morello cherry and chocolate, paying tribute to the prestigious Alto Adige DOC designation.
