Description

What kind of wine is it

Verdeca Lamiro from Tenute Rubino is a still white wine from Apulia, an authentic expression of the native Verdeca grape variety. Produced in the Itria Valley area, it stands out for its fresh and dynamic profile, characterised by an intense and highly refined palate. Careful winemaking preserves its aromatic integrity, highlighting a pronounced acidic note that gives the wine clarity and a precise flavour profile.

Where does it come from

The grapes are grown in the vineyards of Padula di Geremia, located over three hundred metres above sea level in the heart of the Itria Valley. In this terroir, the vines draw nourishment from deep limestone soils, an essential element that imparts the typical acidic and mineral tension to the grapes. The vineyard management follows organic and sustainable principles, using the Guyot training system to ensure balanced yields and the fullest varietal expression of the fruit.

How is it produced

After harvesting, the bunches ferment in steel tanks at low temperatures, avoiding malolactic fermentation to maintain the wine's natural freshness. The wine then rests for five months in steel before completing its maturation with a brief period in the bottle. With a straw yellow colour and greenish highlights, it offers aromas of pear and citrus, with a finish reminiscent of bitter almond and orange blossom. It is ideal for accompanying Apulian starters, fresh cheeses and fish dishes.

History and Curiosities

Lamiro is an elegant tribute to Virgil and his deep connection with the city of Brindisi. This refined white wine is made from Verdeca grapes, a precious native variety that tells the authentic story of the Itria Valley. The vines sink their roots into limestone soils at over three hundred metres above sea level, in the Padula di Geremia area, where cultivation follows the principles of organic and sustainable production. Tenute Rubino crowns a family project that began in the 1980s to enhance the winegrowing potential of Salento.

Tenute Rubino is a story of a family’s deep love for a land and its rediscovery. The winery was established in the early 1980s by Tommaso Rubino—the first to recognize the modern viticultural potential of a territory with such an important past.

Both the traditions of Salento and a vibrant entrepreneurial spirit have been passed down from Tommaso to his son, Luigi, who has since taken over with the support of his wife, Romina. Luigi has undertaken this entrepreneurial legacy, pouring all of his passion into the family’s winery and making it a global ambassador of Apulian viticulture.

After all, winemaking is an ancient art here in Jaddico: over the years, archaeologists have brought to light a Roman manor house filled with kilns, where Visellio—the owner of the estate—fired the amphorae used to export his wine to the four corners of the Roman Empire. At the time, this land was home to extensive vineyards and served as an important manufacturing center for wine containers.

Tenute Rubino is an Apulian brand with a strong international market presence. The company has consistently and successfully exported its labels to 20 countries such as the US, Canada and Brazil.
