Description
What kind of wine it is
Auritea by Tenute Lunelli is an organic red wine that embodies the authentic character of the Costa Toscana. This Cabernet Franc stands out for its deep aromatic profile, characterised by notes of cocoa powder, blackcurrant jam and balsamic hints of rosemary. On the palate, it reveals a solid and elegant structure, supported by soft tannins with an extremely fine texture, leading to a long and persistent finish.
Where it comes from
The grapes come from the Olmo vineyard, located on the picturesque Podernovo hill, a short distance from the sea. The medium-textured soils, tending towards clay, are distinguished by an extraordinary richness of fossilised marine shells. Among these, the Arca Aurita stands out, the ancient fossil that gives the wine its name and imparts a marked mineral savouriness to the taste. The coastal microclimate also promotes optimal vine development.
How it is produced
The vinification process begins with a cold maceration, followed by fermentation in steel. The contact with the skins is managed through gentle wetting of the cap, ideal for a slow and measured extraction of tannins. Maturation takes place over eighteen months in French oak barrels, then completed with at least a year of bottle ageing. This meticulous process ensures the wine has a fascinating decade-long longevity and a constant evolution over time.
History and Curiosities
Founded in 2000 by the Lunelli family, Tenuta Podernovo chose the exclusive Olmo vineyard on the Tuscan coast to create its flagship wine. This elegant pure Cabernet Franc owes its name to the Arca Aurita, an ancient fossilised marine shell that imparts a seductive minerality to the glass. The exceptional 2019 vintage of Auritea, awarded the prestigious 3 Gold Stars Veronelli, celebrates the geological history of the region while fully respecting the landscape, offering a fascinating evolution, ideal for enhancing the most exclusive occasions.

Next to the winery there is a magnificent complex of late eighteenth century rural buildings in typical Tuscan style, which has been recently restored and transformed into exclusive apartments that offer guests an unforgettable stay in this enchanting and peaceful spot. The wines made at Tenuta Podernovo are Teuto, which matures for 20 months in large oak casks and highlights the zone’s natural vocation for producing a very elegant version of Sangiovese, and Aliotto, made from a blend of 60% Sangiovese together with Cabernet, Merlot and other local grapes. Both display an elegant tannic vein, well-balanced fruit and a finish of ingratiating intensity. The last release of Tenuta Podernovo is Auritea, a pure Cabernet Franc. All three wines have an elegant tannic texture, a balanced structure and a final of persuasive intensity: distinctive signature of this Estate. Read more
