Description
What kind of wine it is
Amaranta by Tenuta Ulisse is a deep and structured Montepulciano d’Abruzzo, produced in the suited territory of Crecchio. This red wine with a protected designation of origin, fermented in steel tanks and aged in oak barrels, stands out for its intense and impenetrable ruby colour, a prelude to a rich and enveloping sensory profile. On the nose, the bouquet offers aromas of ripe plum and cherry jam, enriched by notes of sweet tobacco, cocoa and liquorice. On the palate, it reveals a full-bodied texture, supported by evolved and soft tannins that lead towards a long and pleasantly spicy finish.
Where it comes from
The Montepulciano vineyards extend across the municipality of Crecchio, an area of Abruzzo capable of enhancing the natural vigour and structure of the fruit. The vines take root in calcareous-clay soils and are cultivated according to the Abruzzo pergola system. The use of old vines over forty years of age, combined with carefully controlled yields per hectare, guarantees a rich and concentrated raw material. The climate promotes slow ripening of the bunches, which are harvested manually in November to ensure full aromatic expression and a perfect balance.
How it is produced
Vinification begins with careful destemming and crushing of the grapes. The must undergoes prolonged maceration and fermentation in temperature-controlled steel tanks. Subsequently, the wine rests for a period of between nine and twelve months in French and American oak barrels. This stage in wood is fundamental for softening the structure and providing elegant spicy nuances, resulting in a final product of great breadth, harmony and complexity.
History and interesting facts
Founded in 2006, Tenuta Ulisse enhances the Abruzzo winemaking tradition by combining ancient wisdom with modern oenological techniques. From this philosophy, Amaranta is born, an authentic expression of the Crecchio territory. A fascinating anecdote dates back to 1906, when the scholar Molon confused these grapes with Sangiovese; today, the identity of Montepulciano d’Abruzzo DOP is instead an absolute and recognised excellence. Luca Maroni's famous 99 points confirm the profound dedication of the Ulisse brothers in the pursuit of perfection.
