Description

What kind of wine it is

Rosso del Conte is an iconic interpretation of the Contea di Sclafani, crafted by Tasca d’Almerita. This blend of Nero d’Avola and Perricone displays a deep ruby red colour with violet highlights. The bouquet is complex and enveloping, revealing intense aromas of cherry, morello cherry and wild berries, enhanced by elegant notes of walnut husk, vanilla, cinnamon and sage, with subtle hints of tobacco. On the palate, it is dry and full-bodied, with a sip rich in ripe fruit. A pronounced freshness and perfectly integrated tannins accompany a long and persistent finish. It is recommended to decant it about an hour before serving to enhance its complexity, pairing well with red meats, game or mature cheeses.

Where it comes from

The grapes come from the Regaleali estate, in the heart of the Palermo area. The beating heart of production is the historic San Lucio vineyard, planted in 1959. Situated at an altitude between 470 and 480 metres with a south-eastern exposure, the vineyard benefits from a continental climate characterised by significant temperature variations, essential for preserving the grapes’ acidic balance. The soil is mixed in nature, alternating clay and limestone components with areas of sandy loam. This particular hilly terroir gives the wine a solid structure and an extraordinary capacity for ageing.

How it is produced

The process begins with vinification in stainless steel at a controlled temperature, where the must remains in contact with the skins for about 20 days to fully extract colour and structure. Subsequently, the wine matures for 18 months in new French oak barrels from the Allier and Tronçais forests, which enrich the aromatic profile with clear spicy nuances. The journey concludes with a 12-month bottle ageing, a decisive step to harmonise the taste components and stabilise the fullness of the body. The result is a glass with a harmonious, powerful character and a distinct territorial identity.

History and Curiosities

A symbol of Tasca d’Almerita, an estate founded in 1830, Rosso del Conte embodies the vision of Count Giuseppe Tasca: to create a wine capable of rivaling the world’s greatest crus. Born in 1970 as a pioneer of single-vineyard wines in Sicily, it originates from the historic vineyards of the San Lucio hill, planted in 1959. This majestic blend of Nero d’Avola and Perricone has refined its character over the decades, establishing itself as a timeless icon that expresses the excellence, history, and profound winemaking vocation of the Regaleali estate.

Tasca d’Almerita is one of Italy’s oldest family-run wineries, founded in 1830 at Regaleali, in the rural heart of Sicily.

The Tasca family is internationally recognized for its pioneering role in modern Sicilian winemaking. Since 2001, Tasca d’Almerita has pursued a project focused on enhancing native grape varieties in the island’s most vocated territories. Alongside Regaleali—the historic estate spanning approximately 500 hectares—new estates have been added: Capofaro on the island of Salina, Tascante on the northern slopes of Mount Etna, Whitaker on the island of Mozia, and Sallier de La Tour in the Monreale DOC.

In 2019, Tasca d’Almerita was named "European Winery of the Year" by Wine Enthusiast magazine. In 2021, it became one of only 24 wineries worldwide to be awarded the prestigious "Green Emblem" for sustainability by Robert Parker – Wine Advocate. Since March 2023, already a Benefit Corporation, it has earned the esteemed international B Corp certification, joining a select group of companies committed to the highest standards of social and environmental sustainability. In 2025, Tasca d’Almerita received the "Historic Brand" recognition and was officially registered in the Special Register of Historic Brands of National Interest by the Italian Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy.
