Description
What kind of wine it is
Tenuta di Trinoro Rosso Toscana is a blend of great depth, born from the meeting of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. Distinguished by a deep ruby colour, it expresses a complex bouquet of wild berries, cherries and morello cherries, enriched with nuances of peony, mentholated tobacco, balsamic resin and cocoa, all set on an intense mineral framework. On the palate, it reveals an imposing and juicy structure, with vigorous yet silky tannins that accompany the sip towards an extraordinarily persistent finish, dominated by notes of liquorice and a refined boisé touch.
Where it comes from
This wine originates in the heart of the Val d’Orcia, in Sarteano, a region of Tuscany that rigorously enhances Bordeaux varieties. The vineyards are located between 450 and 600 metres above sea level on poor, gravelly soils, rich in clay and calcareous debris, which give the wine a pronounced savoury character. The agronomic management focuses on high planting density and extremely low yields per hectare. The soul of this label lies in a radical parcelling, with manual harvesting of the grapes carried out in fifty distinct vineyards to capture the most authentic essence of each parcel.
How it is produced
Vinification follows a philosophy of minimal intervention to preserve the integrity of the fruit, supported by organic practices in the vineyard. Each variety ferments separately in temperature-controlled steel tanks, thanks to the action of only indigenous yeasts for about twelve days. Once malolactic fermentation is complete, the wine matures for eight months in new French oak barrels. The ageing process concludes with a further period of about a year in cement tanks, essential for achieving the ideal balance before release.
History and Curiosities
Located in Sarteano, in the heart of the Val d’Orcia, the Tenuta di Trinoro began its journey in 1992, quickly establishing itself thanks to an iconic Bordeaux blend. This extraordinary Super Tuscan draws its strength from 50 different plots, meticulously cultivated by hand. The 2022 vintage represents a fascinating chapter, marking a return to the four classic varieties to masterfully interpret the terroir. The exclusive 8,483 bottles, bottled during the waxing moon, express the producer’s total dedication and promise exceptional longevity.

The Founder, Andrea Franchetti acquired the property in the 1980s and in the beginning of the 1990s started planting his first vines. The most important lesson he gleaned from a stint in Bordeaux was the crucial role played by terroir. He saw, in the rough woodland that would become Trinoro,clay-limestone and gravel soils reminiscent of those in Saint-Émilion. Only select parcels were suitable for vine-growing, amid a sea of blue clay, and those he cleared by hand and planted in the style of the Bordelais: high-density, meter-by-meter plantings, with cuttings brought over from some of the region’s great estates.
