Description
What kind of wine it is
A’ Puddara Etna Bianco from Tenuta di Fessina is a still wine that expresses the soul of the volcano. Made from Carricante grapes, this Etna boasts a vertical style, with notes of flint, aromatic herbs and a smoky touch. On the palate, the pronounced acidity leads the sip, opening with a buttery entry that flows into a long and savoury finish. Its mineral character makes it ideal for pairing with raw langoustines and grouper ravioli.
Where it comes from
It originates on the southern slope of Etna, in Santa Maria di Licodia, at around nine hundred metres above sea level. The alberello vineyards host historic Carricante vines, in an environment characterised by a mountain climate and marked temperature variations. The vines sink their roots into deep volcanic sandy soils, rich in ash and trace elements, capable of imparting to the grapes the vibrant salinity that characterises the wine.
How it is produced
Production begins in October with manual harvesting and a selection of the bunches. After gentle pressing, fermentation takes place in large French oak barrels. To enrich the structure, the wine undergoes ageing on fine lees for several months in the same wood, achieving an ideal balance between saline energy and pure fruit expression.
History and Curiosities
The name A’ Puddara evokes the luminous Pleiades, an ancient point of reference for Sicilian fishermen. This elegant Etna Bianco DOC is born on the southern slope of the volcano, where historic Carricante vineyards almost seventy years old, cultivated as bush vines at 900 metres above sea level, sink their roots into dark volcanic ash. A symbol of the Tenuta di Fessina and consecrated by the Tre Bicchieri award, this exceptional wine encapsulates the complex magnificence of the lava soil, offering a savoury and vibrant sip that pays authentic homage to the great Sicilian winemaking tradition.
