Description
What kind of wine it is
Stomennano Chianti Classico Riserva is a still red wine made from a blend of Sangiovese, Canaiolo Nero and Colorino grapes. It appears a deep ruby red in colour, enhanced by violet hues. On the nose, it reveals a fruity and fragrant bouquet, characterised by a long aromatic persistence. On the palate, it displays a complex structure, excellent freshness and soft tannins, finishing with an elegant finale and an enveloping aftertaste. This Chianti Classico Riserva pairs ideally with flavourful first courses, platters of cured meats and mature cheeses, and finds its perfect match with Chianina beef and game.
Where it comes from
The vineyards are located in Monteriggioni, at around two hundred and fifty metres above sea level, cultivated using the spur-pruned cordon method with a density of five thousand vines per hectare. The terroir is distinguished by a loose, rocky soil, shallow, resting on a subsoil rich in grey clay and tuffaceous rock. This particular geological composition balances the development of the vines and gives the wine marked freshness, helping to define a well-structured and mature tannic texture.
How it is produced
The manual harvest takes place in the second half of September. Fermentation occurs in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature, with a long maceration on the skins to encourage optimal extraction. The process continues with a maturation period in wooden barrels lasting about a year, during which malolactic fermentation also takes place, followed by a further twelve months of ageing. Decanting for about an hour is recommended to fully enhance a wine with an ageing potential of up to ten years.
History and Curiosities
Produced in Monteriggioni, the Stomennano Chianti Classico Riserva 2021 embodies Tuscan tradition. The Sangiovese, Canaiolo and Colorino grapes are hand-picked in the second half of September on soils rich in grey clay and tuffaceous rock, then enhanced by the skilled hand of oenologist Lorenzo Landi. Careful vinification and twelve months of ageing in barriques are followed by a further year of bottle maturation. The result is an elegant and complex still red wine, capable of delivering a pleasantly enveloping finish.
