Description
What kind of wine it is
Terre Rare is a still red wine by Sella & Mosca, an authentic expression of Carignano del Sulcis. It stands out for its intense ruby colour with violet highlights and offers a warm and generous sip. The soft tannins accompany hints of pomegranate, wild blackberries and notes of liquorice. Thanks to a measured use of wood, the flavour profile finishes with a long and spicy finish.
Where it comes from
This wine is born in the south-western coastal area of Sardinia, between Capo Teulada and the Iglesiente mountain range. The Carignano vines grow on sandy soils, trained using the bush vine system and tempered by the sea breeze. The intense sunlight ensures the grapes reach full ripeness, resulting in a robust flavour texture and a remarkable capacity for ageing.
How it is produced
The grapes are usually harvested in the first week of October. This is followed by immediate fermentation on the skins in steel for about ten days, alongside the completion of malolactic fermentation. The structure is defined through a long maturation of at least three years, begun in barrels to encourage perfect integration of the oak and completed by a subsequent resting phase.
History and Curiosities
Created by the oenologist Giovanni Pinna for Sella & Mosca, a historic winery founded in 1899, this Carignano del Sulcis DOC originates from the sun-drenched sands of the south-western Sardinian coast, from bush-trained vines. Its authentic character develops thanks to three years of ageing, which begins in barriques and is completed in the bottle. Awarded 89 points by James Suckling and an expression of sustainable viticulture certified by Equalitas, it offers a warm and generous sip that conveys the profound soul of the region.
