Description
What kind of wine it is
Marchese di Villamarina Alghero Cabernet Riserva by Sella & Mosca is a still red wine with a full-bodied structure. Made from Cabernet Sauvignon grapes, this Alghero boasts a silky texture, pronounced tannins and excellent freshness. On the palate, it offers a persistent taste, enriched by intense notes of black cherry and blackcurrant, followed by spicy hints of tobacco, cedar, leather and balsamic nuances. The long ageing in Tronçais oak barrels gives the wine its utmost elegance.
Where it comes from
The grapes are grown in the coastal area of Alghero, in a landscape caressed by the sea. The sunny and breezy climate, combined with mild winters, allows the Cabernet Sauvignon to ripen optimally until the late harvest, acquiring a constant saline influence. The vineyards take root in strong soils of ferrous clay, rich in minerals, wind-blown sands and ancient geological debris. This synergy between soil and climate ensures a perfect balance between body and acidity.
How it is produced
Production begins in late autumn with manual harvesting and careful selection of the bunches. Destemming and crushing precede a maceration on the skins at controlled temperatures. Alcoholic fermentation lasts about three weeks, followed in autumn by malolactic fermentation. Maturation involves ageing for fourteen to eighteen months in small barrels, then continuing in traditional barrels for a year. The process ends with a period of rest in the cellar to best integrate the tannic structure.
