Description
What kind of wine it is
Scarzello Barolo del Comune di Barolo is a still red wine from Piedmont, made exclusively from Nebbiolo grapes. Its aromatic profile is deep and multifaceted, characterised by notes of undergrowth and autumn leaves, enhanced by hints of nutmeg, liquorice, bark and small wild berries. On the palate, the flavour profile is balanced and enveloping, culminating in a savoury finish with remarkable persistence. Its solid structure allows for an ageing potential of between ten and fifteen years, while maintaining great elegance.
Where it comes from
The grapes are grown in the heart of the municipality of Barolo, among the vineyards of Terlo and some prized plots in Sarmassa. This origin highlights the deep connection with the Barolo denomination, offering an authentic expression of the Piedmontese territory. The Scarzello winery, active since 1947, cultivates its own vineyards with dedication to preserve the integrity of Nebbiolo. The decision to create a blend from different plots helps to achieve a harmonious balance between the intensity of the aromas and the structure of the wine.
How it is produced
The vinification process involves long macerations and gentle extraction. Under the guidance of Federico Scarzello, the wine matures in large barrels for twenty-four months, then completes its ageing with a prolonged rest in the bottle. This meticulous care results in a full and vibrant sip, capable of bringing out the best characteristics of the grape variety. At the table, its complexity pairs ideally with game dishes, pork-based preparations and blue cheeses, such as natural Gorgonzola.
History and Curiosities
The result of the dedication of the Scarzello winery, founded in 1947, this Barolo DOCG embodies the true excellence of Piedmont. The prized Nebbiolo grapes, sourced from the Terlo and Sarmassa vineyards, are enhanced through gentle extraction and lengthy traditional maceration. The extended 24-month maturation in wood, overseen by oenologist Federico Scarzello, shapes a full-bodied wine, presented in the iconic Albeisa bottle. A handcrafted masterpiece that encapsulates passion, history, and the purest essence of its region.
