Description

What kind of wine it is

Sassoregale Maremma Toscana Sangiovese is a still red wine that precisely interprets the character of Sangiovese. It appears with a lively ruby red hue, introducing a clean and crisp aromatic profile. On the nose, notes of black cherry and wild berries emerge, enriched by a measured spiciness. On the palate, it offers a medium-full body, revealing itself as bold and elegant. Its significant structure is balanced by moderate acidity, leading the sip towards a velvety finish and promising excellent longevity.

Where it comes from

This red originates in the unspoilt nature of the Maremma Toscana, in the province of Grosseto, on the eastern edge of the Ombrone river plain. In a rural setting rich in biodiversity, the Sassoregale vineyards are situated at an altitude between one hundred and one hundred and fifty metres above sea level. The vines are cultivated using the spur-pruned cordon system on deep, clay-rich soil. This specific geological formation supports the wine’s consistency, imparting a savoury character and a distinctive energy that faithfully reflects the authenticity of the region.

How it is produced

Production begins with meticulous harvesting in September. In the winery, red vinification is carried out with careful maceration on the skins to extract colour and substance, followed by malolactic fermentation. The process is completed with ageing in small oak barrels, an essential step to soften the tannic texture and enrich the flavour profile while preserving the varietal’s typical character. It is recommended to let the wine breathe before serving to allow it to fully open up; it is the ideal companion to enhance grilled red meats, flavourful cured meats, and sheep’s cheeses.

History and Curiosities

Founded in 2000 in the heart of the wild nature of the Grosseto area, Tenuta Sassoregale crafts a wine that encapsulates all the energy of the Tuscan Maremma. On the edge of the Ombrone plain, an untouched heritage of biodiversity surrounds the vineyards from which this proud Sangiovese DOC is born, awarded 92 points by Decanter and 4 bunches by Bibenda. The result of a careful September harvest, this creation expresses the authenticity of the region, offering in the glass a sip of rare elegance and an important structure that enhances every flavour.
