Description
What kind of wine it is
Santus Franciacorta Brut is a refined sparkling wine produced in Lombardy according to the strict Traditional Method. This elegant blend is created from the union of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, offering a structured profile and remarkable freshness. In the glass, it displays a bright golden yellow hue, enhanced by a very fine and elegant perlage. On the nose, clear aromas of ripe fruit and citrus emerge, while the palate reveals a creamy, savoury sip with pronounced complexity. It is an ideal wine to evolve harmoniously over time, with an ageing potential that can reach up to ten years.
Where it comes from
The grapes come from ten hectares of hillside vineyards located in Rovato, in the heart of Franciacorta. The morainic soils give this wine a distinct savoury and mineral character, faithfully reflecting the features of the Lombard territory. The Santus winery pursues small-scale viticulture focused on the protection of biodiversity. The agronomic management respects the environment, encouraging the most authentic expression of the land and allowing the grapes to ripen in perfect harmony with the hillside microclimate.
How it is produced
The process begins with a careful late harvest, designed to obtain rich and fully ripe grapes. After gentle pressing and maceration on the skins, fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled steel tanks and in fine French oak barrels. The vinification of part of the Chardonnay in wood enriches the wine's structure. The secondary fermentation is carried out strictly according to the Traditional Method, with a prolonged ageing on the lees of at least twenty-one months, which is essential to give the wine its typical roundness and complex aromatic profile.
History and Curiosities
Founded in 1995 in Rovato by Maria Luisa Santus and Gianfranco Pagano, the company stands out for its small-scale viticulture with a strong focus on protecting biodiversity. To highlight the deep connection between the vine, climate, and the Franciacorta region, the winery forgoes blending, producing exclusively single-vintage wines. From its ten hectares of land come authentic sparkling wines, crafted with the utmost respect for the environment thanks to a state-of-the-art facility designed to ensure complete energy self-sufficiency.

In the space of three years, they planted about 60.000 vines over an area of 10 hectares and they now take personally care of vineyard management.
The Santus philosophy is based on the firm belief that a small wine grower’s mission must be to protect nature’s diversity and its many nuances, by rejecting standardization in any form.
In order to emphasize the strong vine-climate-terroir bond, no cuvée wines are produced and only single-vintage wines are bottled.
Harvesting occurs quite late into the season, giving all Franciacorta Santus wines a mineral character, complexity and structure combined with great drinkability. Read more
