Description
What kind of wine it is
This sweet fortified wine is a clear expression of Port. Created from a careful blend of Tinta Barroca, Tinta Roriz, Touriga Francesa and Touriga Nacional, it displays a distinct oxidative style and a bright amber hue. On the nose, intense notes of dried apricots, honey, walnuts, spices and vanilla emerge. On the palate, it is rich and layered, developing with great elegance and complexity. Served chilled, it pairs beautifully with blue cheeses and foie gras starters, enhancing structured desserts such as crème brûlée and tarte Tatin.
Where it comes from
The grapes grow in the Douro region of Portugal. After an initial rest in their place of origin, the wines are taken to Vila Nova de Gaia to mature in the historic Sandeman cellars, founded in 1790. The winery creates a meticulous blend of various aged selections, ensuring absolute stylistic consistency that preserves the identity, smoothness and aromatic concentration typical of this type.
How it is produced
The production process faithfully follows the traditional Port method. After careful hand harvesting, the bunches are destemmed, crushed and undergo temperature-controlled fermentation accompanied by prolonged maceration on the skins. The strategic addition of alcohol halts the process, retaining a pleasant natural residual sugar. The long ageing in oak barrels defines the body and concentrates the bouquet, creating a perfect balance between structural density and flavour richness.
