Description

What kind of wine it is

Sandeman Fine White Porto is a pleasantly sweet fortified wine with a youthful and fresh style. Its pale straw yellow colour anticipates a bouquet characterised by notes of tropical fruit and subtle hints of vanilla. On the palate, it is light and crisp, with delightful echoes of honey and mango balanced by a good acidity that harmonises its natural sweetness. The careful selection of Malvasia Fina, Códega, Viosinho and Gouveio grapes creates a versatile aperitif, excellent enjoyed neat or mixed as a long drink with tonic water. It is ideal paired with cheese, seafood vol-au-vents and salted almonds.

Where it comes from

This Port originates in Portugal, among the picturesque landscapes of the Douro Valley. Produced by Sandeman, a historic winery founded in 1790, this wine faithfully expresses the character of its homeland. After an initial resting period in the production areas, it is transferred to the renowned cellars of Vila Nova de Gaia. Here, maturation ensures the correct structural development, giving the wine a fresh and harmonious profile, enriched by delicate nuances acquired during its time in oak barrels.

How it is produced

Vinification strictly follows the traditional Port process. The grapes are hand-picked, destemmed, crushed and fermented with maceration at a controlled temperature. The addition of grape spirit halts fermentation, preserving the pleasant natural sweetness of the fruit. After being moved to Vila Nova de Gaia, the wine matures in oak barrels for a period ranging from two to five years. The final blend, with an average age of three years, is carefully filtered and cold-stabilised, making it ready to be enjoyed without any need for decanting.

History and Curiosities

Founded in 1790, Sandeman celebrates its heritage with the Fine White Porto, a young wine from the Porto DOC denomination. After resting in the evocative Douro Valley, this distinguished label matures in oak barrels in Vila Nova de Gaia for an average of three years. Expert craftsmanship ensures a consistent style, enriched with perfectly balanced notes of tropical fruit and honey. The iconic “Don” Sandeman on the label seals the charm and tradition of this refreshing and award-winning aperitif.
