Description

What kind of wine it is

Salcheto Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Riserva is an organic red wine and vegan, which fully reflects the soul of Tuscany. This blend combines Sangiovese, Sangiovese Grosso and Colorino grapes, creating a dry, full-bodied and structured style. The bouquet opens with enveloping notes of cherry, spices, leather and tobacco. On the palate, a dense note of black cherry emerges, supported by soft, aromatic tannins that lead to a decisive finish and a fresh and fruity aftertaste.

Where it comes from

This wine has its roots in Montepulciano, where high-altitude vineyards nurture the vines, giving the grapes remarkable aromatic intensity and a defined expression. The Salcheto estate stands out for its deep ecological commitment, applying a biodynamic agricultural approach focused on energy self-sufficiency and the replanting of willows. This vocation enhances the authenticity of the Tuscan territory, offering a red of great character, perfect for accompanying dinners based on game, red meats and mature cheeses.

How it is produced

Vinification uses the Governo Toscano method, a practice that employs slightly overripe grapes obtained through drying to increase the concentration of the must. Maturation takes place over eighteen months in oak barrels of various sizes, completing its journey with a prolonged final ageing. The result is a glass with a spicy texture accompanied by hints of praline, fig and thyme, enriching the tasting experience with decisive and elegant power.

History and Curiosities

Founded in 1984 in Montepulciano, the Salcheto winery produces this excellent Riserva DOCG, a true expression of its territory. The oenologist Michele Manelli applies the traditional Governo all’uso Toscano method, using slightly overripe grapes to give the wine a rare intensity. The estate, managed according to organic and biodynamic principles, aims for energy self-sufficiency and the replanting of willows. Awarded 92 points by James Suckling and Vinous, this red combines Tuscan tradition with respect for the environment.

Salco means the willow tree in the ancient Tuscan language, an important plant for wine territories throughout history as its branches were used to bind and the vines.

Salcheto is the name of the stream , which springs at the foot of the town of Montepulciano and winds through a valley where willows abounded. This stream is the boundary of our organic and biodynamic estate, rooted in the historic district of Vino Nobile, in the southeast of the Siena province of Tuscany.

The willow tree, a species that we continue to replant at the winery, also contributes to the winery’s energy independence, is today prominently represented in our logo as part of our commitment to environmental sustainability.
