Description

What kind of wine it is

Chianti Biskero by Salcheto is an organic red wine with a lively and fresh character. This Sangiovese-based blend, enriched with Canaiolo Nero, Mammolo and Merlot, expresses a clear aromatic profile. Scents of violet, cherry and raspberry emerge, intertwined with hints of basil and a delicate note of vanilla. On the palate, it is dry and crisp, supported by soft and enveloping tannins. The sip finishes with a typical spicy note, ideal for accompanying roasts or grilled meats.

Where it comes from

The roots of this Chianti lie in the Tuscan vineyards located in Poggio Piglia, Abbadia and Greppo. In these particularly suitable areas, Salcheto cultivates the vines following the principles of biodynamic agriculture. The distinctive soils give the grapes an elegant expression and well-defined fruit. The winery's commitment to environmental sustainability allows the full vitality of the Sienese territory to be transferred to the glass, respecting its authentic winemaking vocation.

How it is produced

Production begins with careful selection of the grapes and low yields, to maximise the integrity of the harvest. Fermentation in stainless steel preserves the natural aromatic freshness. Part of the wine then matures in American oak barrels, adding a measured elegance to the flavour profile. The blend finally rests for a final ageing that consolidates its harmonious structure. An hour of decanting allows every nuance to be fully appreciated.

History and Curiosities

The name Salcheto originates from the word “salco”, an old Tuscan term for willow, a plant historically used to tie vines. Founded in 1984 in Montepulciano, near the stream of the same name, the estate practices strict organic and biodynamic viticulture, striving for energy independence in complete harmony with nature. From these 58 hectares of vineyard comes the Chianti Biskero 2024, a harmonious red awarded 90 points by James Suckling that reflects the most authentic essence of the Sienese territory.

Salco means the willow tree in the ancient Tuscan language, an important plant for wine territories throughout history as its branches were used to bind and the vines.

Salcheto is the name of the stream , which springs at the foot of the town of Montepulciano and winds through a valley where willows abounded. This stream is the boundary of our organic and biodynamic estate, rooted in the historic district of Vino Nobile, in the southeast of the Siena province of Tuscany.

The willow tree, a species that we continue to replant at the winery, also contributes to the winery’s energy independence, is today prominently represented in our logo as part of our commitment to environmental sustainability.
