Description
What kind of wine it is
Saint Clair Pioneer Block 1 “Foundation Block” Sauvignon Blanc is a dry white New Zealand wine made from Sauvignon Blanc grapes. Its profile is marked by freshness and an intense citrus character, with aromas of passion fruit, grapefruit and lime. On the palate, it is crisp and lively, enriched by hints of white currant and green apple. The juicy texture is complemented by a pronounced mineral sensation and elegant herbal notes, leading to a persistent and pleasantly saline finish. A vegan wine that skilfully combines balance and typicity.
Where it comes from
The grapes come from the Marlborough region, in the heart of the renowned Wairau Valley. The Foundation Block 1 plot is located in an area characterised by the coolest climate in the entire valley, a factor that encourages vibrant acidity and pronounced aromatic intensity. The site’s deep, fertile soils give the wine a bold character, balancing the palate tension with a concentrated structure. The strong connection to the land imparts typical notes, completed by a distinctive iodised touch reminiscent of the sea’s salinity.
How it is produced
In the winery, production begins with immediate pressing of the bunches, necessary to limit skin contact and preserve the finesse of the Sauvignon Blanc. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures with selected yeasts, maintaining the purity of the fruity profile. To enhance the characteristics of the original site, each plot is vinified separately. Maturation continues exclusively in steel, without the use of wooden barrels, thus ensuring the utmost clarity of expression for a lively and crisp glass.

The Sinclair family initially settled the property on which this vineyard is located. The pioneer James Sinclair built one of the first houses in Blenheim and was closely associated with the town's early development.
Over time, the property's name reverted to the original Saint Clair.
