Description

What kind of wine it is

The Champagne La Bergerie Brut Nature displays a straw yellow colour, the result of a blend where Chardonnay is combined with Pinot Noir. On the nose, it reveals pleasant fruity aromas and delicate floral notes. The choice of Pas Dosé offers a fresh, savoury and persistent sip. Served at a temperature of 6-8 °C, it is ideal for pairing with cheese, starters, shellfish and lean fish, also boasting excellent ageing potential that can reach up to ten years.

Where it comes from

This wine originates in the heart of the renowned Champagne region in France, crafted by the Ruppert Leroy winery. The family-run estate manages its vineyards according to the principles of biodynamic and organic viticulture, under the guidance of Bénédicte Leroy. This approach allows for a precise expression of the terroir, conveying the most authentic identity of the surrounding landscape into the glass through careful attention to environmental sustainability.

How it is produced

The production of Champagne La Bergerie Brut Nature strictly follows the Traditional Method, which gives the wine an elegant fine perlage. The cuvée is made without any dosage to maintain a pure and vertical Brut Nature profile. This technique enhances the tension and linearity of the palate, highlighting the pronounced savouriness and freshness of flavour that characterise the labels from this winery.

History and Curiosities

Led by Bénédicte Leroy, the family-run Ruppert Leroy estate has been cultivating its mere 4 hectares of vineyards in Champagne since the 1980s, following strict sustainability principles. From this deep commitment comes Champagne La Bergerie Brut Nature, an outstanding wine certified as organic and biodynamic that perfectly harmonises Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Produced using the traditional method and with no dosage, this refined Pas Dosé expresses the pure essence of the terroir, offering a fine perlage, elegant floral aromas and a fresh savouriness.

Bénédicte Leroy’s parents were originally sheep farmers settling in Essoyes in 1975 to start a small farm on a clearing above the town. In the 1980s they learned they could plant grapes on the the land they had been renting for the sheep to graze. Little by little, they created a domaine which today is four hectares, not including the garden and small pasture they kept for their own animals. In 2009, when her father was about to retire, Bénédicte left her job as a physical education teacher to take over the domaine. Read more
