Description
What kind of wine it is
Rosset Terroir Chardonnay 770 is a still white wine made from Chardonnay grapes, a true expression of the Aosta Valley. Characterised by a bright straw yellow colour, it offers a refined and floral bouquet with notes of broom, ripe pineapple, candied citrus fruits and orange zest. On the palate, the Chardonnay is dry, fresh and smooth, distinguished by a pronounced mineral character and excellent savouriness. Its structure makes it perfect for accompanying vegetable flans, omelettes, white and fatty fish, medium-aged cheeses or flavourful dishes such as pork with apples.
Where it comes from
The grapes are grown in Thuvex, in the municipality of Saint-Christophe, from high-altitude vineyards situated at 800 metres above sea level with a north-south exposure. The alpine climate encourages regular ripening, while the sandy and stony soil, rich in rocky fragments, gives the wine tension and energy. The Rosset Terroir winery was founded by the Rosset-Levi family who, drawing on their long experience in distillation, have been dedicated since 2001 to rigorous mountain viticulture, enhancing the potential of this extreme territory.
How it is produced
Production begins in mid-September with a meticulous manual harvest, followed by gentle pressing. To optimise aromatic extraction and preserve the purity of the fruit, cold skin maceration is used. Fermentation and maturation take place in barriques and French oak barrels: a skilful ageing in wood that enhances the wine’s structural softness, balancing its natural freshness to offer a harmonious, rounded and persistent sip.
History and Curiosities
Born from the experience of the Rosset-Levi distillers, the Rosset Terroir project brings a longstanding passion into the world of wine. From the first vineyards planted in Thuvex in 2001, the estate has expanded to the heroic plots of Villeneuve, at 800 metres above sea level, where the prestigious Chardonnay 770 is produced. Under the guidance of oenologist Matteo Moretto, the company now manages 13 hectares of genuine mountain vineyards, producing 50,000 bottles of excellence each year. The 2023 vintage celebrates this dedication, combining high-altitude viticulture with Alpine character.

The story began to take shape in 2001, with the planting of the first three hectares of vineyard in the municipality of Saint-Christophe, just outside Aosta. The first varieties grown were Chardonnay, Syrah, and the native Cornalin. In just a few years, the estate expanded its vineyard surface and selected new, highly suited plots, where Muscat Blanc, Pinot Gris, and additional parcels of Syrah were also introduced.
A turning point came in 2017, when Rosset Terroir ventured beyond 900 meters above sea level, in the village of Villeneuve. On particularly steep slopes, in a context of heroic viticulture, the cultivation of the traditional Petite Arvine grape variety comes to life, from which the winery’s flagship wine is born: the Sopraquota 900, awarded in 2021 as Italy’s Best White Wine by Gambero Rosso ‘s Vini d’Italia guide and included in James Suckling’s Top 100 World Wines in 2024.
Today, Rosset Terroir manages around 13 hectares of vineyards and produces approximately 50,000 bottles per year, carefully selecting the region’s most promising plots and combining the expertise of seasoned technicians with modern, functional facilities. Read more
