Description
What kind of wine it is
Roccardo by Rocche Costamagna is a red wine from Piedmont made from Nebbiolo grapes, a true expression of the renowned Langhe denomination. It appears a ruby red colour with garnet highlights, while on the nose it reveals an intense and fruity aroma, led by clear notes of raspberry and blackberry. On the palate, it stands out for its elegant and harmonious structure, supported by soft tannins that ensure its balance. It is extremely versatile at the table, pairing ideally with braised meats, roasts, game dishes and mature cheeses.
Where it comes from
This Nebbiolo originates between the municipalities of La Morra and Verduno. The vine roots sink into calcareous soil, essential for giving the wine its typical linear character. The agricultural management aims for productive balance, operating with a planting density of up to four thousand two hundred vines and a measured yield. The Rocche Costamagna brand manages fifteen hectares of estate, carrying on a careful historic family management since 1841, now in its sixth generation.
How it is produced
After the harvest at the beginning of October, vinification begins with an eight-day maceration on the skins at a controlled temperature, encouraging proper extraction. The subsequent twelve-month maturation in Slavonian oak barrels consolidates the body of the wine while preserving its stylistic integrity. The process is completed with an essential six-month refinement, which fully defines its flavour profile. Decanting is recommended for about an hour, serving the wine at a temperature of fourteen to sixteen degrees.
History and Curiosities
Founded in 1841, the Rocche Costamagna company has been cultivating vines in La Morra for six generations, representing a true Piedmontese excellence. Under the guidance of oenologist Alessandro Locatelli, the fifteen hectares located between La Morra and Verduno produce one hundred thousand bottles annually, capable of expressing the deep identity of the region.
