Description
What kind of wine it is
Barolo del Comune di La Morra by Rocche Costamagna is an elegant red wine made from Nebbiolo grapes, characterised by a ruby colour with garnet highlights. On the nose, it reveals hints of rosebuds, geranium, black cherry, ripe plum and dried raspberry, enriched by delicate notes of cinnamon and cardamom. On the palate, it offers a medium body skilfully balanced by creamy tannins, resulting in a fresh, enveloping wine with a pleasantly savoury finish. Ideal for special dinners, it pairs excellently with game, pork and mature cheeses, boasting remarkable ageing potential for those wishing to enhance their collection.
Where it comes from
This Barolo originates from the renowned Piedmontese area of La Morra. The Rocche Costamagna winery cultivates its vineyards with a strong focus on environmental sustainability. The estate includes plots in the prestigious Rocche dell’Annunziata cru, cared for and preserved by the family for over two centuries. The historic Napoleonic-era cellars, now carefully restored, house the barrels, providing the ideal environment for the wines to mature and rest, reflecting the deep roots and absolute authenticity of this famous Piedmontese terroir.
How it is produced
Barolo del Comune di La Morra is the result of meticulous vinification, specifically designed to enhance the balance and savoury complexity of Nebbiolo grapes. Careful work in the cellar creates a structured red particularly suited to longevity, characterised by a long persistence reminiscent of small red fruits. To best appreciate its natural aromatic breadth, it is recommended to decant for one hour before serving. The wine expresses its full harmony when tasted at a serving temperature between eighteen and twenty degrees.
History and Curiosities
Founded in 1841, Rocche Costamagna represents the excellence of La Morra, in the heart of the Barolo denomination. For six generations, the family has cultivated the renowned cru Rocche dell’Annunziata within the estate’s fifteen hectares. Under the guidance of oenologist Alessandro Locatelli, the company produces one hundred thousand bottles a year, skilfully combining tradition and sustainability. The Napoleonic-era cellars, now restored, offer tastings that celebrate the dynamism and historicity of this Piedmontese terroir.
