Description
What kind of wine it is
Valtellina Superiore Grumello by Rainoldi is a still red wine made from Nebbiolo grapes, locally known as Chiavennasca. Characterised by a ruby red colour, it offers an ethereal bouquet defined by notes of hazelnut and small red fruits. On the palate, it reveals a well-balanced and full body, enlivened by a vibrant freshness that makes it easy to drink. With great ageing potential, it elegantly accompanies hearty first courses, game, and roasted vegetables, and also enhances dishes based on white and red meats or medium-aged cheeses.
Where it comes from
This red originates in the heart of Valtellina, on the steep terraces situated between the towns of Sondrio and Montagna in Valtellina. The area belongs to the Valtellina Superiore zone, finding its precise expression in the historic Grumello subzone. The south-facing slopes and the rigorous practice of heroic viticulture define the wine's identity. Active in Chiuro since 1925, the Rainoldi winery cultivates these precious mountain vineyards so that the complex ecosystem of the Valtellina terroir is reflected in a harmonious and vibrant structure.
How it is produced
In the winery, the aim is to soften the natural austerity of Nebbiolo to achieve a balanced flavour profile. Fermentation in large oak barrels precedes a long maturation phase in the same wooden containers. The process concludes with the use of steel tanks for blending the final blend. Produced following sustainable practices, the wine rests for a long time in the dark and cool of underground cellars. This results in a dense extractive texture, supported by a pronounced natural acidity.
