Description

What kind of wine it is

Prunotto Dolcetto d’Alba is a red wine that elegantly expresses the character of the Dolcetto grape variety. In the glass, it displays a vivid ruby red colour with purple highlights. Its aromatic profile releases scents of plum and black cherry jam, combined with floral notes, vegetal hints, dark spices and damp earth. On the palate, it is round and enveloping, supported by soft tannins and a harmonious balance between freshness and savouriness. The sip finishes with a warm ending and a typical almond aftertaste, making it ideal for pairing with ragù pasta dishes and braised meats.

Where it comes from

Born in the Alba area, in the province of Cuneo, this red represents the heart of the Langhe wine region in Piedmont. The Dolcetto d’Alba vines sink their roots into sandy and clay soils, formed by ancient marine currents from the Miocene era. This unique geological matrix defines the wine’s marked territorial identity, encouraging ripe fruit with well-defined contours. The Prunotto winery is dedicated to faithfully interpreting the vocation of this hilly environment, ensuring a sip with a pronounced varietal imprint.

How it is produced

The process begins with destemming and crushing, followed by a seven-day maceration at a controlled temperature. This stage allows for targeted colour extraction while preserving a rigorous aromatic purity. Malolactic fermentation concludes in mid-December, noticeably softening the wine’s texture. The wine then matures for several months in stainless steel tanks, without the use of wood: a choice aimed at maintaining the original fruit fragrance intact. The cellar process concludes in the spring, resulting in a clear and balanced wine.

History and Curiosities

Founded in Alba in 1904, the Prunotto winery preserves the excellence of the Langhe, offering an authentic expression of Dolcetto d’Alba DOC. The vines sink their roots into sandy and clay soils of Miocene origin, giving this red wine a distinctive character. Careful vinification and ageing exclusively in steel enhance its lively fragrance. Praised by international critics, this wine encapsulates the truest Piedmontese tradition in every glass.
