Description

What kind of wine it is

Poggio di Sotto Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is a refined red wine that expresses the most authentic soul of the Tuscan region. Made entirely from Sangiovese grapes, it stands out for its deep aromatic profile, characterised by notes of wild herbs, cherry, dog rose, ginger and tobacco. On the palate, it reveals an enveloping structure balanced by a lively freshness. The silky tannins and savoury component lead to a finish with long balsamic persistence, making it an ideal companion for game dishes and mature cheeses.

Where it comes from

This wine originates in the heart of Tuscany, in the prestigious Montalcino area, in the locality of Castelnuovo dell’Abate. The vineyards benefit from a south-facing exposure, optimal for grape ripening, and are situated at an altitude between 300 and 450 metres. The vines draw nourishment from a rocky sedimentary soil that is poor in nutrients, giving the wine a fine texture and marked freshness. The Poggio di Sotto estate operates under a strict organic and sustainable regime, enhancing the territorial identity to achieve a profile of extraordinary oenological precision.

How it is produced

Production begins with meticulous manual harvesting, aimed at preserving the integrity of the bunches. Vinification involves spontaneous fermentation carried out by indigenous yeasts in wooden vats. Subsequently, the wine undergoes a long ageing process of forty-two months in oak barrels, where it acquires complex depth. To preserve the authenticity of the sip and its natural characteristics, no filtration is carried out. This artisanal care results in a wine with an imposing structure and velvety tannins, with an extraordinary capacity to evolve over time.

History and Curiosities

The result of careful research into the ideal soil and microclimate for Sangiovese, this extraordinary wine is produced in Castelnuovo dell’Abate, on south-facing rocky slopes. The harvest, strictly carried out by hand, precedes spontaneous fermentation in wood, followed by a noble 42-month maturation in Slovenian oak barrels. Bottled without filtration to preserve its integrity and organic character, it offers a balsamic sip and extraordinary longevity. This excellent production of 45,000 bottles has gained worldwide recognition, achieving 97 points from Parker and Decanter.
