Description
What kind of wine it is
Vigna del Bersagliere by Podere 414 is a still organic red wine produced in the Morellino di Scansano area. Made from Sangiovese grapes, it offers a full and structured sensory profile. On the palate, it reveals a dense tannic texture, perfectly balanced by a lively acidity that ensures a long and satisfying persistence. The meticulous artisanal approach defines an enveloping gastronomic style, ideal for enhancing the authentic flavours of Tuscan cuisine.
Where it comes from
This red originates from a single vineyard parcel located in the evocative landscape of the Maremma. Its name is a heartfelt tribute to Giuseppe Valiani, a bersagliere and key figure in the estate's history. To the eye, it presents an intense, deep and bright ruby red colour. The olfactory profile releases aromas of black fruits, which blend with hints of Mediterranean scrub, spicy notes and a noble touch of wood.
How it is produced
The harvest takes place between the last week of September and the first week of October. The process begins with a prolonged maceration on the skins in temperature-controlled cement vats. Frequent pumping over and délestage promote proper polyphenolic extraction. The wine then matures for thirty-six months in French oak barrels, followed by a further twenty-four months of ageing. The sip is clean, broad and rounded, perfect for accompanying the flavourful dishes of the Maremma.
History and Curiosities
The Vigna del Bersagliere pays tribute to Giuseppe Valiani who, after the Second World War, purchased the estate now managed by Podere 414. This reserve, created from a single plot of 1.1 hectares, is offered in a precious limited edition of only 3,520 bottles. The wine matures for five years, a lengthy period chosen to evoke the wait of the Bersagliere before being able to embrace his family again. Thanks to the vision of Simone and Maurizio Castelli, the company thus transforms this affectionate memory into an extraordinary expression of Tuscan oenology.
