Description
What kind of wine it is
Barolo Marenca by Pira Luigi is a still red wine that embodies the elegance and power of Nebbiolo. This wine displays a structured and complex sensory profile, typical of the Serralunga area. Visually, it presents an intense garnet red colour, while on the nose it reveals a fresh and multifaceted bouquet. The aromas intertwine notes of forest fruits with clear hints of vanilla, chocolate and aromatic herbs. On the palate, it is vigorous and persistent, supported by remarkable extractive richness. The weave of lively and pleasant tannins, refined through expert use of wood, ensures a balanced tasting experience and is predisposed to long ageing.
Where it comes from
The grapes come from the historic Marenca vineyard, located in Serralunga d’Alba. The wine’s distinctive character derives from the calcareous-clay soils, which impart a solid structure and great ageing potential. The rows are situated at around three hundred and fifty metres above sea level, with a south-southwest exposure that favours perfect ripening of the Nebbiolo. The Pira Luigi winery, linked to these lands since the late nineteenth century, tends the vines with the aim of enhancing the territorial vocation, offering an authentic and sincere interpretation of the Langhe landscape.
How it is produced
Vinification involves temperature-controlled fermentation in horizontal fermenters, lasting around seven to ten days. This is followed by the crucial maturation phase: ageing in barrels, divided between new and second-use wood, continues for twenty-four months, helping to smooth the tannic texture of the Nebbiolo. A further eight months’ rest in bottle allows the wine to reach its final harmony. To best appreciate the clarity of this Barolo, it is recommended to decant for one hour, serving the wine at a temperature between eighteen and twenty degrees.
