Description

What kind of wine it is

Pierre Legras Monographie Brut Nature Grand Cru is a Blanc de Blancs made from Chardonnay grapes. Crafted using the Traditional Method, this Champagne displays a dry and mineral profile, enhanced by the absence of dosage. In the glass, it reveals a fine and persistent perlage, heralding a fresh and creamy sip. On the nose, notes of pastry, toasted bread and meringue emerge, enriched by hints of lemon, liquorice and mint, leading to a dry and clean finish.

Where it comes from

This Champagne originates from Chouilly, a renowned village in the Côte des Blancs classified as Grand Cru. The Pierre Legras estate, whose winemaking history dates back to the seventeenth century, cultivates land ideal for Chardonnay, the region’s flagship grape. Belonging to this area of excellence gives the wine pronounced freshness and precision on the palate. Careful selection in the vineyard ensures grapes of the highest quality, capable of supporting the structural tension required by a strict Brut Nature style.

How it is produced

Production follows the Traditional Method, with the prise de mousse achieved through a second fermentation in the bottle. The absence of added sugars in the dosage enhances the pure character of this Blanc de Blancs. The bouquet stands out for its interplay of quince compote, acacia and buttercup, enriched by lively citrus notes such as pink grapefruit and lemongrass. On the palate, the distinctly creamy texture is balanced by deep structural tension and delicate fruity nuances, offering a tasting experience that culminates in a pronounced mineral persistence.

History and Curiosities

Founded in 1662 in Chouilly, the Pierre Legras house has passed down the passion and knowledge of a historic family of winegrowers for eleven generations. The Monographie project originates from the ten hectares located in the Côte des Blancs, giving rise to a superb Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru. Led by oenologist Vincent Legras, the winery enhances the value of Chardonnay grapes. The traditional method is combined with the complete absence of added sugars typical of dosage zero, a rigorous choice that elevates the purity and mineral freshness of this Champagne.

In the beginning, there was Pierre Legras, born in 1662, a contemporary of Louis XIV and Dom Pérignon. Since then, 11 generations have succeeded one another. Each bottle of Pierre Legras Champagne embodies the spirit of its founders.

The birth of Pierre Legras marked the beginning of a great line of winemakers. Eleven generations have followed each other for nearly four hundred years: Pierre, Pierre the 2nd, Jean-Baptiste the 3rd, Honoré the 4th, Jean-Baptiste the 5th, Simon-Auguste the 6th, Théodore-André the 7th, Elie-Edmond the 8th, Lucien the 9th, Philippe the 10th, and Vincent the 11th.

After training at the Avize Wine School and graduating with a National Diploma in Oenology, Vincent, in 2002, created the Champagne name of Pierre Legras, a tribute to his distant ancestor. Assisted by his father, he developed the business over the years. The domaine grew from 5 to more than 10 hectares. He invested little by little: in a press, in vats, in vines … these many commitments a necessity to offer wines that lived up to his ambitions.

In 2011, Marcelline joined him. Together, they developed the name internationally. Today, the inimitable style of Pierre Legras wines goes beyond borders.
