Description
What kind of wine it is
Clos Napoleon Fixin 1er Cru by Pierre Gelin is a still red wine from Burgundy, made from Pinot Noir grapes. This expression of the Fixin Premier Cru appellation displays an elegant and well-structured profile. On the nose, it is subtle, with delicate violet notes. On the palate, it offers a floral attack and a hint of mint, leading to clear flavours of stone fruit, raspberry, cherry and liquorice, delivering a distinct aromatic purity.
Where it comes from
This wine originates in Fixin, Burgundy, from old vines grown on clay-limestone soils. This soil composition imparts a pronounced tension and vibrant freshness to the palate. Formerly known as Aux Cheuzots, the plot owes its current name to the officer Claude Noisot, who celebrated the emperor by commissioning a famous commemorative sculpture. The unique microclimate of this historic parcel naturally enhances the complexity and identity of the terroir.
How it is produced
Vineyard management follows strict organic principles, employing careful manual leaf thinning to ensure optimal sun exposure for the bunches. After meticulous hand harvesting, vinification continues in a way that preserves the fruit's natural characteristics. The wine matures in oak barrels for a period of between twenty and twenty-two months, gaining greater structural depth. Further ageing in the cellar consolidates its remarkable ageing potential.
History and Curiosities
The plot, once registered as “Aux Cheuzots”, owes its fame to Claude Noisot, an officer of the Imperial Guard who followed Napoleon to the Island of Elba. To honour the Emperor, he commissioned the magnificent sculpture depicted on the label of this Fixin Premier Cru. Beyond its historical charm, the wine expresses all the purity of an organic Pinot Noir aged in oak for 20-22 months. On the palate, it offers a floral and mentholated freshness, revealing a harmonious bouquet of raspberry, cherry and liquorice.

To obtain high-quality grapes of optimal maturity, the vines are disbud in a very selective manner, and remove leaves by hand.
For the need to respect the environment, the Domaine uses rainwater to wash its tractors and has installed a "plant container" to process water used to rinse sulphating equipment. The fermenting room is equipped with a screen and a sludge remover, so no wine-making effluents are discharged into the public network.
Vinification follows the traditional methods but adapts in order to continuously improve the quality of the wines. The wines mature in oak barrels – the percentage of new barrels varies depending on the Crus and vintages – to give light woody note, from 20 to 22 months. The wines are then bottled on the estate and are only marketed after being stored for a year or two in our cellars. Read more
