Description
What type of wine it is
Piero Busso's Langhe Nebbiolo is a still red wine with a Piedmontese Controlled Designation of Origin (DOC) that enhances the purity of Nebbiolo in the prestigious Langhe territory, obtained through fermentation in steel and ageing in large oak barrels. Visually, it presents a clear ruby red colour, which introduces a harmonious olfactory profile characterised by pleasantly fruity notes. On the palate, it reveals itself to be perfectly balanced, supported by an elegant and measured tannic texture that accompanies the sip towards a finish of remarkable persistence.
Where it comes from
The grapes come from the vineyards of Neive, in Piedmont, situated on hillsides with a south-west exposure at an altitude of between 180 and 200 metres. The vines are rooted in clay-sandy soils and are cultivated using the Guyot system. This expression was not created as an alternative to Barbaresco, but is the result of a precise agronomic choice: the selection of younger vines grown on rich soils allows the grape variety to express a dynamic, fresh and balanced physiognomy.
How it is produced
After harvesting, the grapes undergo a process of fermentation and maceration in temperature-controlled steel vats. This method favours optimal colour extraction and the definition of structure. The wine subsequently matures in large oak barrels, completing its refinement with a period of resting in the bottle. The result is a profile with a clean technical approach, capable of fully enhancing the freshness and integrity of the fruit.
History and curiosities
The Langhe Nebbiolo DOC by Piero Busso was not created as a “minor” Barbaresco, but is the result of a precise and conscious production choice. This still red wine comes to life in Neive from younger vines, carefully cultivated on clay-sandy soils that best enhance the expression of pure Nebbiolo. Ageing in large oak casks gives the 2024 vintage a harmonious and balanced structure, capable of fully enhancing the historical link with the prestigious Piedmontese terroir, offering elegant tannins and a pleasant persistence.
