Description

What kind of wine it is

Barbaresco Albesani Vigna Borgese by Piero Busso is a still red wine with Denomination of Controlled and Guaranteed Origin, made from Nebbiolo grapes, capable of clearly expressing the character of Piedmont. In the glass, it displays a garnet red hue and reveals a harmonious and balanced aromatic profile. On the palate, it is full and elegant, supported by a noble, well-defined tannic structure that makes it intense and profound. Fermentation in steel and ageing in large barrels enhance the varietal precision, offering a sip of great balance.

Where it comes from

The grapes are grown in the Albesani geographical mention, within the Vigna Borgese located in the municipality of Neive. The rows, trained using the Guyot system, benefit from an excellent south-west exposure at an altitude between 210 and 240 metres above sea level. The roots of the vines, aged between thirty and seventy years, delve into a calcareous and clay-silt soil. This specific soil composition helps to shape the wine’s distinctive character, supporting its aromatic evolution and giving profound expressive complexity to the Nebbiolo clusters.

How it is produced

The production process begins with fermentation in steel vats, initiated using pied de cuve and indigenous yeasts to preserve the authenticity of the primary aromas. Subsequently, the wine undergoes a maturation phase in large barrels, a choice aimed at softening the tannic texture while maintaining its clarity. The maturation journey concludes with a period of bottle ageing lasting from six months to a year. This meticulous sequence of ageing allows the Barbaresco to reach its peak harmony, elegantly integrating all its sensory components.

The Busso philosophy was clear right from the start: to make wines that expressed their terroir. The estate was established in 1948 by Guido, Piero’s father. As time went by, our idea of wine became more and more precise. Following Guido’s untimely death, at the end of the 1970s, Piero Busso, who had always been closely bound to the area, took over as head of the winery, producing the first bottle of Albesani Barbaresco in 1982. An important step, which clarified the direction to be taken by our production from that moment on.

The wine we strive to bottle is a wine that respects the land, the vine and the fruit. A wine that is able to draw out the characteristics of all three, without distorting them and without forcing things.
