Description
What kind of wine it is
Quercegobbe by Petra is a still red wine with Indicazione Geografica Tipica status that expresses the profound character of a great Merlot grown in Tuscany, fermented in wooden vats and aged in barrels. It displays a vibrant, intense ruby red colour. On the nose, it reveals a rich bouquet of ripe red fruit, finely interwoven with sweet spices and penetrating balsamic notes of myrtle and eucalyptus. On the palate, it unveils a silky tannic texture and a pronounced savoury component, balanced by a natural acidity that ensures an elegant sip and a long, lingering finish.
Where it comes from
This Merlot comes to life from the vineyards of Suvereto, located on the edge of the Mediterranean scrub and facing the Tyrrhenian coast. The rows of vines sink their roots into soils rich in manganese and metals, formed by the ancient erosion of the surrounding hills. This unique geological composition gives the wine its distinct minerality and unmistakable territorial character. The warm Mediterranean climate, tempered by sea breezes, ensures optimal ripening of the grapes, resulting in a full-bodied flavour profile and vibrant freshness.
How it is produced
The production process begins with temperature-controlled fermentation in truncated conical wooden vats, a technique adopted to preserve the fruit's maximum aromatic precision. Subsequently, the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation and matures for fifteen months in a careful selection of new barrels and second-use barrels. This period in wood shapes the structure, lending roundness to the palate. The cycle concludes with a prolonged bottle ageing of ten months, necessary to harmonise the components and ensure a clean finish.
History and Curiosities
Born from the passion of Francesca and Vittorio Moretti, this noble single-variety Merlot takes its name from the renowned vineyard of Suvereto. Its rows, planted in 1997 near the Petra winery, sink their roots at the edge of the Mediterranean scrubland overlooking the sea. This exceptional terroir shapes a red wine that, since its inception, has represented both the testing ground and proud emblem of the estate: a territorial masterpiece capable of captivating true connoisseurs with its unique history and profound Tuscan soul.
