Description
What kind of wine it is
Ottin Petite Arvine is an elegant dry white wine that faithfully reflects the terroir of the Aosta Valley. Made from the Petite Arvine grape variety, it stands out for its clear aromatic profile, featuring verbena, Golden apple, delicate alpine flowers and mineral notes. On the palate, the lively citrus freshness combines with pronounced savouriness, balanced by an enveloping structure. The sip finishes with a persistent and refined aftertaste, enriched by spicy nuances and a pleasant hint of honey.
Where it comes from
The grapes are grown in a striking alpine setting, where heroic viticulture requires exclusively manual work on steep, south-facing slopes. Situated between 650 and 700 metres above sea level, the vineyards benefit from constant ventilation and excellent sunlight. The soils, rich in feldspar, sand and coarse sandstone, give the wine a profound mineral character. The Guyot training system and low yields ensure optimal ripening, concentrating the fruit's aromas and preserving its natural vibrancy.
How it is produced
The grapes are hand-harvested at the beginning of October, with careful selection of the best bunches. In the winery, ageing in stainless steel for seven months on the lees enhances the wine's structure, ensuring a harmonious integration of fruity and saline components. A further four months in bottle stabilises the sensory profile, giving this captivating mountain wine a bright straw-yellow colour. The result is a dry white, balanced and precise, capable of evolving beautifully over time.
History and Curiosities
A product of the heroic viticulture of the Aosta Valley, Ottin's Petite Arvine expresses the proud spirit of the mountains. Grown on steep, south-facing slopes at altitudes between 650 and 700 metres, this rare grape variety has its roots in sandy soils composed of sandstone and feldspar. The grapes, hand-harvested at the beginning of October, give rise to an excellent Valle d’Aosta DOC. Awarded 93 points by James Suckling for the 2024 vintage, it is a wine of extraordinary longevity, capable of evolving and gaining greater depth in the bottle for up to ten years.
