Description
What kind of wine it is
Orlando Abrigo presents Nebbiolo d’Alba Valmaggiore, a refined still red wine from Piedmont. Made from Nebbiolo grapes of the Lampia sub-variety, this wine fully expresses the identity of Nebbiolo d’Alba. After gentle pressing and maceration in contact with the skins, it matures in oak barrels until the following autumn, acquiring a solid and harmonious structure. Characterised by remarkable technical precision and excellent ageing potential, it is the ideal companion for game dishes and mature cheeses.
Where it comes from
The grapes come from Vezza d’Alba, in the heart of the Roero, specifically from the renowned Valmaggiore parcels. In this area, heroic viticulture is practised, dictated by steep slopes that require entirely manual work. The vineyards, situated between 180 and 240 metres above sea level with optimal exposures, grow on sandy and silty soils. This pedoclimatic context allows for a clear expression of Nebbiolo, giving the glass a defined flavour profile and an unmistakable personality.
How it is produced
The production of this red follows a careful philosophy, with low yields in the vineyard to concentrate the grapes’ aromatic profile. In the cellar, gentle pressing is followed by maceration at a controlled temperature. Subsequently, the wine is transferred to wood for a constant and gradual winter rest. The skilful ageing in oak barrels smooths the tannic texture, giving balance and pleasantness to the palate. The care dedicated to every stage ensures an authentic interpretation of the territory, also recognised by the authoritative Robert Parker score.
History and Curiosities
The Nebbiolo d’Alba Valmaggiore 2021 by Orlando Abrigo expresses the authentic essence of the Roero, the result of rigorous heroic viticulture. On the steep sandy hills of Vezza d’Alba, Nebbiolo Lampia grapes are worked entirely by hand, without the use of mechanical means. After a gentle pressing, the wine matures in 25 hl oak barrels until the following autumn, acquiring a profile of great character. Celebrated with 92 points from Robert Parker, this cru embodies the triumph of Piedmontese artisanal dedication.
