Description
What kind of wine it is
Barbaresco Montersino by Orlando Abrigo is a red wine from Piedmont that expresses the character of Nebbiolo grapes. Born in the prestigious Barbaresco area, it stands out for its structured and harmonious profile. On the palate, it reveals a full body balanced by fine, silky tannins, ensuring a smooth drink. Careful ageing guarantees excellent evolutionary potential, enhancing the intrinsic qualities of the grape variety over time.
Where it comes from
The grapes come from the slopes of Treiso, in the historic Montersino cru, renowned since 1879 for its viticultural value. The vineyards, facing south and south-west at an altitude between 300 and 350 metres, are trained using the Guyot system. This approach favours the balance of the vine, maintaining low yields. To enhance the nuances of each plot, the grapes from the different parcels are vinified separately, offering a faithful interpretation of the Piedmontese terroir.
How it is produced
Production begins with gentle pressing and a skin maceration lasting 20-25 days at controlled temperatures. After racking, the wine rests in barrels, partly new, maturing for a period between 12 and 15 months. This time in wood shapes the structure and polishes the tannins with elegance. The process concludes with a further ageing in bottle of at least twelve months, essential for defining and stabilising the aromatic profile.
History and Curiosities
The Orlando Abrigo winery, founded in 1964 and faithful to ancient family traditions, enhances the prestigious Montersino cru in Treiso, already celebrated in 1879 for its exceptional winegrowing vocation. This elegant Nebbiolo is born from parcels vinified separately, resulting in a full-bodied red with fine, silky tannins. The meticulous ageing of 12-15 months in barriques and tonneaux, followed by a year in the bottle, ensures a pleasant and satisfying drink. Appreciated by critics, this fine vintage has achieved an impressive 94 points from Robert Parker.
