Description

What kind of wine it is

Capitel della Crosara Amarone della Valpolicella Classico is a profound and enveloping meditation wine signed by Montresor. To the eye, it presents an intense ruby red hue, revealing a complex bouquet characterised by aromas of overripe red fruit, balsamic notes and delicate hints of violet. On the palate, it is dry, warm and full-bodied, supported by a well-structured tannic texture and a pleasant bitter note on the finish. The distinct flavours of blackberry, ripe cherry, liquorice and spices make it ideal for pairing with meat dishes and game, while also enhancing the bold taste of mature cheeses.

Where it comes from

This harmonious red blend comes to life in the hilly heart of the Amarone della Valpolicella Classico area, within a landscape reminiscent of a natural amphitheatre. The soils host the native varieties Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella, Molinara and Oseleta, cultivated with absolute rigour. The wine's name pays homage to the stone votive shrine depicting the Madonna, located at the crossroads of a small village. Since the 1950s, the Montresor winery has established a historic collaboration with local farming families, ensuring authentic territorial quality in full respect of its roots.

How it is produced

Production follows a meticulous process that begins with the selection of the best bunches between September and October. The grapes are laid out on racks to undergo about three months of drying, a crucial phase that naturally concentrates sugars and aromas. This is followed by gentle pressing and slow fermentation with maceration on the skins for up to thirty days to extract structure and colour. The wine then undergoes a long maturation period, resting for three years in French and Slavonian oak barrels. This ageing imparts profound complexity, ensuring a long ageing potential before release to the market.

History and Curiosities

The name Capitel della Crosara pays tribute to an ancient votive shrine dedicated to the Madonna, located at a crossroads in the heart of Valpolicella. Since the 1950s, the Montresor winery has cultivated a deep bond with local winegrowers, selecting grapes of exceptional quality. The 2017 vintage of this Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG Classico encapsulates the essence of the region: a meticulous three-month drying process and lengthy maturation in oak give rise to a sumptuous wine for contemplation, ideal with meat and mature cheeses.
