Description
What kind of wine it is
Monteraponi Chianti Classico is an organic red wine from Tuscany, created from a harmonious blend of Sangiovese and Canaiolo Nero. It appears a transparent ruby red in the glass, while on the nose it releases aromas of violet, rose, black cherry and plum. The aromatic profile is enriched with notes of raspberry, pepper, rosemary and tobacco, accompanied by subtle marine hints. On the palate, it displays an excellent synergy between freshness and savouriness, supported by a dense and well-balanced tannic structure. Thanks to its long and persistent finish, it pairs perfectly with robust first courses, pork, game and mature cheeses.
Where it comes from
This wine originates from the hills of Radda in Chianti, within the Monteraponi estate, an ancient medieval hamlet overlooking the Arbia Valley. The vineyards, situated at around four hundred and seventy metres above sea level, are managed according to the principles of organic viticulture, in full respect of the land. The soul of this soil imparts a vibrant precision and liveliness to the sip. It is in this setting that the most authentic essence of Chianti Classico is expressed, capable of delivering pronounced freshness, mineral savouriness and a fine tannin.
How it is produced
Production follows a philosophy based on naturalness and respect for timing. The process begins with a spontaneous fermentation carried out by indigenous yeasts in vitrified cement vats and conical tanks, with no temperature control or inoculation for malolactic fermentation. Ageing takes place in the estate’s historic cellars, where the natural humidity encourages constant evolution. The wine rests in large oak barrels of French or Slavonian origin for at least sixteen months, a choice that preserves the original aromatic purity and defines the dense texture of the sip.
History and Curiosities
Produced in a medieval village in Radda in Chianti, at an altitude of 470 metres, Monteraponi Chianti Classico 2023 expresses the authentic essence of the Arbia Valley. The estate practises strict organic viticulture across twelve hectares, limiting technological intervention to fully respect the terroir. In the historic cellars, spontaneous fermentation in cement vats enhances the natural purity of the Sangiovese. The slow oak ageing for sixteen months imparts great elegance to this wine, which has been awarded by international guides such as Vinous and Decanter.

The complex located on the hill of the same name at an altitude of 470 meters overlooking the valley below which slopes toward the river Arbia.
The farm produces Chianti Classico wines, Vin Santo del Chianti, Oil, Grappa. All productions are family-run certified organic by ICEA Italy.
The cellar was carved from ancient pre-existing buildings, which naturally provide humidity and a constant temperature all year round, thanks to the thick stone walls. The technology is minimized, the fermentations take place in old cement tanks and in tanks frustoconical elliptical base of Nomblot, always concrete. All tanks are devoid of thermo-conditioning systems, to ensure that the fermentations are the most spontaneous and natural as possible. Do not add yeasts for or use of activating, feeder and malolactic bacteria.
Adjacent to the winery there is the aging cellar, which is also converted from an old existing building, three-quarters underground, Read more
