Description
What kind of wine it is
Contrada Volpare Etna Rosato is a still wine from Etna, produced in Sicily by Maugeri exclusively from Nerello Mascalese grapes. The bouquet is lively, characterised by notes of wild strawberry, raspberry and redcurrant, enriched with delicate floral touches and hints of Mediterranean scrub. On the palate, it is juicy, with a pronounced minerality that leads to a pleasantly citrusy finish. The vinification, carried out partly in steel tanks and partly in French oak barrels, ensures an ideal balance between acidic tension and roundness.
Where it comes from
The grapes come from the picturesque Contrada Volpare, in the municipality of Milo, located on the eastern slope of the volcano. The vineyards are an example of heroic viticulture, with bush-trained vines grown on steep terraces bordered by dry-stone walls made of lava stone. Thanks to the altitude of seven hundred metres and the eastern exposure, the vines benefit from a microclimate that preserves aromatic freshness. The volcanic sandy soil, rich in minerals, gives the wine a vibrant personality. Maugeri manages the estate following the principles of organic farming and sustainability.
How it is produced
Production begins in October with the manual harvesting of the bunches to ensure their integrity. In the winery, gentle pressing and cryomaceration allow for the delicate extraction of primary aromas. Fermentation takes place between steel and wood to safeguard the typical character of the grape variety. This is followed by careful ageing on fine lees for four months, which adds structure and a pleasant texture. Thanks to its versatility, it is excellent when paired with grilled shellfish, vegetarian dishes and charcuterie boards.
