Description

What kind of wine it is

Radici Taurasi by Mastroberardino is a still red wine that best enhances the Taurasi denomination and the Aglianico grape variety. It displays an intense ruby red colour and a complex aromatic profile, characterised by notes of cherry, violet and well-defined spiciness. On the palate, it is enveloping and elegant, supported by a solid structure and aromas of plum and wild strawberry. The perfect balance between its components ensures remarkable longevity, making it ideal for pairing with roasted meats and mature cheeses.

Where it comes from

The grapes come from Irpinia and are the result of a careful blend of fruit grown in the estates of Montemarano and Mirabella Eclano. The vineyards are located at around four hundred and fifty metres above sea level, with optimal south-east and south-west exposures. The marked temperature variations typical of this area favour a slow and steady ripening of the grapes. The combination of the clay soils of Montemarano and the sandy loam soils of Mirabella Eclano gives the wine the structure and acidity needed to undergo significant ageing over time.

How it is produced

The manual harvest takes place between the end of October and the beginning of November. In the winery, red vinification is carried out with a long maceration on the skins at a controlled temperature, a fundamental process for the optimal extraction of colour and polyphenols. Subsequently, the wine matures in oak barrels for about twenty-four months, acquiring greater softness of the tannins. The production process concludes with bottle ageing for at least twenty-four months, which refines its structural depth and final elegance.

History and Curiosities

An emblem of the historic dedication of the Mastroberardino family, active in Irpinia since 1878, Radici is born from the union of fine grapes from the estates of Montemarano and Mirabella Eclano. The marked temperature variations of these terroirs favour the slow ripening of the pure Aglianico, giving the wine noble tannins and extraordinary longevity. This prestigious Taurasi DOCG, the result of constant viticultural research, boasts excellent ratings from the world’s leading critics, confirming itself as an authentic icon of elegance.

The Mastroberardino family has been involved in the socio-cultural context of winemaking for over two centuries, according to the most reliable historical reconstructions. The first traces of their presence in Irpinia date back to the Bourbon land registry, in the mid- eighteenth century , when the family chose the village of Atripalda as their headquarters, where the ancient cellars are still located, and from there a lineage began that inextricably linked its fortunes to the cult of wine.

Ten generations have since then run the family business, amidst alternating fortunes, as always happens in the histories of long-standing family businesses.
