Description
What kind of wine it is
This still white wine from Campania, produced by Mastroberardino, is a clear expression of the Falanghina grape variety. Part of the Falanghina del Sannio denomination, it displays a straw yellow colour with greenish highlights in the glass. The bouquet is lively, with intense aromas of citrus, peach, white flowers and tropical fruits. On the palate, it offers a pleasant acidity and excellent persistence, finishing with elegant exotic notes.
Where it comes from
The grapes are grown on the Tenuta di Apice estate, in the Campanian hinterland. The vineyards, facing south-east at an altitude of 350 metres, ensure the wine has a pronounced freshness. The roots sink into medium-textured soil rich in stones, which imparts a linear character to the sip. The vines have an average age of fifteen years and guarantee a yield of eighty-five quintals per hectare.
How it is produced
The process begins at the end of September with manual harvesting. The white vinification is designed to protect the aromatic heritage of the Falanghina. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks for twenty days, at a controlled temperature between sixteen and eighteen degrees. This temperature management preserves the integrity of the aromas, resulting in an extremely clean flavour profile.
History and Curiosities
The name comes from the “phalanges”, the ancient wooden stakes used to support the vines. The historic Mastroberardino winery celebrates the roots of this ancient Campanian grape variety with the Falanghina del Sannio DOC, a still white wine produced at the Apice Estate. Grown at an altitude of 350 metres on stony soils, the grapes impart a marked freshness. Vinification in temperature-controlled steel tanks faithfully preserves the vibrant notes of tropical fruits and citrus, offering a harmonious and persistent sip.
