Description
What kind of wine it is
Massolino Barolo Parafada is a red wine from Piedmont made from Nebbiolo grapes, an authentic expression of Serralunga d’Alba. With an intense garnet colour, it reveals a deep bouquet of red fruits, interwoven with floral nuances that evolve into clear hints of tobacco and liquorice. On the palate, it is powerful and austere, displaying a complex structure supported by firm yet sweet tannins. Its natural propensity for long ageing makes it perfect for pairing with rich dishes such as roasts, game, and mature cheeses.
Where it comes from
This Barolo originates from the historic Parafada vineyard, located on the western slope of Serralunga d’Alba. Historically recognised as a top-tier subzone, the plot rests on calcareous marl and sandy soils, which impart great precision and solidity to the wine. The rows are trained using the Guyot system to maintain low yields. The grapes are harvested from 55-year-old vines, whose deep connection with the land enhances the natural richness and typical austerity of the denomination.
How it is produced
After manual harvesting, vinification takes place through a classic skin maceration lasting fifteen to twenty days at controlled temperatures. Maturation occurs in oak barrels for around thirty months, allowing the aromatic profile to harmonise. This is followed by a final rest of at least one year through bottle ageing in cool, dark cellars, resulting in a red wine with a firm texture, ready to evolve beautifully over time.
History and Curiosities
The historic Parafada vineyard, recognised as a “first category subzone” in Serralunga d’Alba, produces exceptional grapes that the Massolino family transforms into a traditional Barolo of immense character. Made from 55-year-old vines, this red in Magnum format has received 97 points from James Suckling and Robert Parker. Thanks to careful ageing for 30 months in oak, it reveals a deep aromatic profile with notes of red fruits, tobacco and liquorice. The palate, austere and rich, is supported by solid yet sweet tannins, ensuring long ageing potential.

With tenacity and passion, we have been making wine since 1896.
Azienda Agricola Massolino Vigna Rionda is the dream of our great-grandfather Giovanni, who founded the estate in 1896. In those days, it was a traditional Langa farm, producing fruit and vegetables, raising livestock and making wine.
Our family is firmly at the helm of the historic estate that inhaled the vibrant air full of change of the late 19th century and navigated the tides of the first half of the 20th century. Today, we face the new challenges of the 21st century, in the capable hands of the third and fourth generations.
We are Massolino Vigna Rionda and we are writing a legacy with our wines. Read more
