Description

What kind of wine it is

Masi Bonacosta Valpolicella Classico is a still red wine with a medium-intensity cherry red colour. This blend combines the Corvina, Rondinella and Molinara varieties in an aromatic profile dominated by scents of ripe cherry, vanilla and violet. On the palate, it is dry and fruity, with a medium body and lively acidity that enhances its freshness. Soft tannins accompany the drink towards a clean and invigorating finish. Its marked versatility makes it ideal for everyday meals, pairing beautifully with pasta, risottos and pizza, as well as being a perfect companion for charcuterie boards, cheeses and white meats.

Where it comes from

This wine is produced in the heart of Veneto, within the historic boundaries of Valpolicella Classico. The vineyards are located in Gargagnago di Valpolicella, in the province of Verona, where the Masi winery carefully selects the grapes to create a red wine with a strong sense of place. The area of origin guarantees optimal soil and climate conditions to enhance the characteristics of the native grape varieties. Belonging to this renowned wine region ensures an authentic imprint, offering a balanced tasting experience that remains true to the features of the Veronese landscape.

How it is produced

The vinification of this red blend results in a dry and inviting profile, with an ageing potential of five to ten years. The vanilla notes enrich the fruity texture with great balance, thanks to maturation in barrels. To fully appreciate its intense bouquet, it is recommended to decant for about an hour. The optimal serving temperature is between 14 and 18 degrees, preferably in a large glass to allow perfect aeration, enhance the floral nuances and prepare the palate for its velvety tannins.

History and Curiosities

A true emblem of Veronese tradition, Masi's Bonacosta offers a contemporary interpretation of the vocation of Valpolicella Classica. Born in Gargagnago, it embodies a simple elegance, so much so that Hemingway described it as welcoming "like a brother's home". This fine blend delights the palate with silky, enveloping tannins, combined with vibrant aromas of ripe cherry and vanilla, for a fresh, pleasant and harmonious sip.

Masi is a leading producer of Amarone and has always interpreted the values of the Venetian regions with passion. Its history begins in 1772, the date of the Boscaini family's first harvest in the prized vineyards of ‘Vaio dei Masi’, a valley in the heart of Valpolicella Classica. Since then, Masi has expanded, little-by-little, with successive purchases in the best historical production areas of the Venetian regions.

Masi produces first-class wines primarily from native grape varieties, using traditional methods that embody sustainability and continuous technological innovation. With more than two hundred and fifty vintages behind it, Masi has been owned since its inception by the Boscaini family, which today runs the company with the sixth, seventh and eighth generations.
