Description

What kind of wine is it

Masi Tupungato Passo Doble Rosso Terra Soleada is an organic red wine with a distinctly modern character. This intriguing blend of Malbec and Corvina Veronese stands out for its harmonious and vibrant fruity intensity. The appassimento technique gives depth to the sip, while ageing in French oak barrels enriches the profile with a delicate spiciness. With an intense ruby red colour, the wine expresses soft tannins and a balanced structure, making it ideal to enjoy after a brief decanting.

Where does it come from

This wine originates in Argentina, in the high-altitude vineyards of the Uco Valley, located in Tupungato in the renowned Mendoza region. The vines are grown on Masi's organically managed estate, at an altitude between 950 and 1050 metres, a condition that favours an extraordinary aromatic concentration of the fruit. The loamy-sandy soils, rich in stones and minerals, help define a fine tannic texture and a structured body. The sustainable agricultural approach demonstrates a deep connection and respect for the South American territory.

How is it produced

Production involves partial drying of the Corvina Veronese grapes to intensify colour and aromas, followed by fermentation in steel tanks. A period of several months' rest in French oak barrels allows the wine's structure to be smoothed. On the nose, enveloping notes of ripe cherry and dried plum emerge, enhanced by hints of sweet spices and vanilla. On the palate, it is rich and velvety, with a long fruity persistence and silky tannins, making it the perfect companion for grilled red meats and mature cheeses.

History and Curiosities

Active since 1772, the Masi family brings its Venetian expertise to Argentina with the Masi Tupungato Passo Doble. This fascinating organic wine combines the fruity intensity of Andean Malbec with the elegance of Corvina, enhanced by the renowned appassimento technique. Born in the high-altitude vineyards of the Uco Valley and refined in French barriques, it offers a nonconformist and structured sip. A blend of tradition and sustainable innovation that brings to the glass a characterful red, generous and widely acclaimed by international critics.

Masi is a leading producer of Amarone and has always interpreted the values of the Venetian regions with passion. Its history begins in 1772, the date of the Boscaini family's first harvest in the prized vineyards of ‘Vaio dei Masi’, a valley in the heart of Valpolicella Classica. Since then, Masi has expanded, little-by-little, with successive purchases in the best historical production areas of the Venetian regions.

Masi produces first-class wines primarily from native grape varieties, using traditional methods that embody sustainability and continuous technological innovation. With more than two hundred and fifty vintages behind it, Masi has been owned since its inception by the Boscaini family, which today runs the company with the sixth, seventh and eighth generations.
