Description
What kind of wine it is
Costa d’Amalfi Rosso by Marisa Cuomo is a still red wine from Campania that captures the essence of the Amalfi Coast. This blend of native grapes, made from Aglianico and Piedirosso, displays an intense, brilliant ruby colour with purple highlights. On the nose, it releases aromas of wild berries, ripe cherry, blackcurrant and violet, fading into a delicate spicy note. The palate is fresh and full-bodied, with soft, well-integrated tannins that make it extremely enjoyable to drink. It pairs perfectly with robust first courses, pork, cured meats and cheeses.
Where it comes from
The grapes are sourced from the characteristic terraces of Furore, in the province of Salerno. This context of heroic viticulture sees the vines clinging to rocky cliffs overlooking the sea. The vineyards, facing south between one hundred and two hundred and fifty metres above sea level, take root in calcareous and dolomitic soils. The climate ensures excellent sunshine, constantly tempered by the sea breeze. Marisa Cuomo selects the raw material from a ten-hectare area, maintaining controlled yields to concentrate the aromas and preserve the authentic identity of the harvest.
How it is produced
The production process begins with the harvesting of Aglianico and Piedirosso, grown using the espalier and atypical pergola systems. After vinification, the wine undergoes maturation in barrels for six months, an essential step to consolidate its structure and harmonise the aromatic components. The processes take place inside a cellar carved into the rock, designed to ensure natural management of humidity and temperature. For optimal tasting, a decanting time of one hour is recommended, serving the wine at sixteen degrees to enhance its structured profile.
History and Curiosities
Founded in 1983, Marisa Cuomo is the emblem of heroic viticulture on the Amalfi Coast. The Aglianico and Piedirosso vineyards cling to the steep dolomitic and limestone rocks of Furore, exposed to the sun and sea breeze. Costa d’Amalfi Rosso is born from the union of ancient traditions and modern winemaking technologies, the result of a rigorous selection of grapes. Aged in the evocative cellar carved into the rock, this wine releases in the glass all the energy and identity of an extreme territory.
