Description
What kind of wine it is
Barolo del Comune di Barolo by Marchesi di Barolo is a rich red wine made from Nebbiolo grapes. On the palate, it is full-bodied and elegant, supported by soft tannins that lead to a persistent finish with delicate spicy notes. The bouquet reveals intense aromas of ripe red fruits, dried rose and balsamic hints, making it ideal to pair with braised meats and game.
Where it comes from
The grapes come from estate-owned vineyards located on the well-exposed hills of the Barolo municipality, divided among prestigious crus such as Cannubi, Sarmassa and Ravera. The soils, known as the Marl of Sant’Agata, consist of a compact mix of clay, limestone, sand and silt. This composition, combined with a wealth of mineral salts, gives the wine a savoury and spicy texture, defining a profile of clear rigour and finesse.
How it is produced
The best bunches are hand-picked and vinified separately for each cru. After destemming and crushing, fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled steel tanks, with a fifteen-day maceration on the skins and regular pumping over. Once malolactic fermentation is complete, the wines are blended and aged for two years. Maturation in French and Slavonian oak barrels of various sizes imparts a measured depth to the wine.

| Origin | Municipality of Barolo (Piedmont), Italy |
| Soil composition | Clay (Sant'Agata marls), limestone, sand and silt |
| Cultivation system | Espalier, Guyot |
| Fermentation | About 15 days |
| Production technique | Separate vinification for each cru: destemmed and crushed grapes, fermentation at controlled temperature in stainless steel with maceration on the skins for about 15 days and pump-overs; subsequent malolactic fermentation and blending. |
| Wine making | Each cru is vinified separately: the destemmed and crushed grapes ferment at a controlled temperature in stainless steel vats; maceration on the skins lasts about 15 days with pumping over operations to maximise the extraction of polyphenols. |
| Aging | After the malolactic fermentation, the individual wines obtained from the different crus are blended. Ageing lasts about 2 years: during the first year, half of the volume is matured in small French oak barrels and the other half in 30 hl Slavonian oak casks; in the second year, the entire volume is brought together and completes its maturation in traditional large Slavonian oak casks (at least 18 months in oak). |
