Description
What kind of wine it is
Barbaresco Riserva della Casa, produced by Marchesi di Barolo, is an excellent red wine from Piedmont with controlled and guaranteed designation of origin, made from Nebbiolo grapes. It displays an intense garnet red colour and an ethereal, complex bouquet, characterised by notes of tobacco, raspberry, violet and spices, enriched by the typical hint of goudron. On the palate, it is rounded and elegant, supported by soft and balanced tannins that define its solid structure, enhanced by ageing in oak barrels. To fully appreciate its character, it is recommended to serve it between 16 and 18 degrees, paired with first courses with porcini mushrooms, braised meats and spicy cheeses.
Where it comes from
This wine originates in Piedmont, in the heart of the Barbaresco area, in the municipality of Neive. The vineyards grow on compact, impermeable calcareous-clay soils, which force the roots to go deep in search of water. This condition encourages the development of loose bunches with small berries, ensuring a high mineral concentration. As a Riserva, the wine undergoes an ageing process of at least five years and has an evolutionary potential that can exceed twenty years.
How it is produced
The harvest is carried out by hand to ensure a rigorous selection of the bunches. After destemming, temperature-controlled fermentation takes place in steel tanks, with maceration on the skins for about fifteen days and frequent pumping over to optimally extract colour and aromas. Subsequently, the wine rests in vitrified cement tanks before maturing in Slavonian and French oak barrels, where it achieves perfect harmony. The production cycle is completed with a long final ageing before being released to the market.
History and Curiosities
The label of this wine stands out for its illustrations of historic buildings and an ancient coat of arms, elements that add a touch of tradition and heritage. Among the most interesting facts, this Barbaresco is released on the market only after a minimum ageing of five years from the harvest and has a potential for cellar evolution that exceeds twenty years. Its value is further demonstrated by the prestigious awards it has received: 92 points from Wine Spectator and 91 points from Wine Enthusiast.

| Origin | Neive, province of Cuneo |
| Soil composition | Calcareous-clay soils |
| Cultivation system | Low Guyot system |
| Fermentation temperature | 30 °C (83 °F) |
| Fermentation | Approximately 10 days (up to 15 days) |
| Production technique | Fermentation in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperature, with maceration on the skins and pumping over; ageing in vitrified cement tanks and Slavonian oak barrels (and French oak), then further ageing in bottle. |
| Wine making | The grapes are hand-picked; after destemming, they are gently pressed and delicately transferred into stainless steel fermenters. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature (30°C) and maceration on the skins lasts for about 10 days (up to 15 days) with pump-overs. The first maturation occurs in vitrified cement tanks with several rackings, followed by ageing in traditional Slavonian oak barrels (and medium-sized French oak barrels) and partly in barriques; the ageing process is completed in the bottle for several months, with release to the market not before 5 years after the harvest. |
| Aging | The wine is aged for two years in Slavonian oak barrels and medium-sized French oak barrels, then for a further year in cement tanks insulated with cork and lined with fibreglass. It is then aged for an additional 24 months in bottle before being released as a Riserva. |
| Allergens | Contains sulphites |
