Description
What kind of wine it is
Tenuta Montenisa Franciacorta Brut Contessa Maggi is an elegant sparkling wine made using the Traditional Method, a true expression of the Lombardy region. It is crafted from a harmonious blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. In the glass, it displays a straw yellow colour with golden highlights, enhanced by a fine and persistent perlage. The aromatic profile reveals notes of yeast, white peach and almond, with delicate hints of brioche and a subtle mineral streak. On the palate, it is fresh, balanced and creamy, with a persistent finish reminiscent of white-fleshed fruit. It pairs perfectly with fish soups, medium-bodied first courses and white meats.
Where it comes from
This wine originates in the heart of Franciacorta, in the province of Brescia, south of Lake Iseo. Tenuta Montenisa stretches across sixty hectares of vineyards in an area with an ideal microclimate for viticulture. Production centres around the historic Borgo di Calino, whose documented roots date back to the twelfth century. The estate's history was consolidated at the end of the nineteenth century at Palazzetto Maggi and, since the late 1990s, the property has been managed by the Antinori family. The influence of the lake basin imparts freshness and elegance to the grapes.
How it is produced
The production process begins with manual harvesting, followed by gentle pressing. The first fermentation takes place partly in steel tanks and barrels, to give greater organoleptic complexity. The wine then undergoes secondary fermentation in the bottle according to the rules of the Traditional Method. This is followed by a long and careful ageing on the lees for at least forty months, a crucial step to achieve structure and smoothness. Remuage is carried out by hand on classic pupitres, ensuring the utmost artisanal care at every stage of maturation.
History and Curiosities
In the heart of Franciacorta, south of the picturesque Lake Iseo, lies the charming Tenuta Montenisa. The history of the village of Calino has very ancient origins, dating back to 1158, and was consolidated at the end of the nineteenth century thanks to the marriage between Lavinia Calini and Gaetano Maggi. Since 1999, the partnership between the Counts Maggi and the Marchesi Antinori has transformed the sixty hectares of vineyards and the historic Palazzetto Maggi into a project of excellence, created to produce a Franciacorta DOCG of extraordinary elegance, capable of combining a rich historical heritage with a modern profile.

The most important building is undoubtedly the 'Palazzetto Maggi' built in the 16th century and frescoed by the Lattanzio Gambara (1530-1574) from Brescia. This building is located in the centre of two large courtyards enclosed by porticoes.
The small church of Santo Stefano is also part of the estate. It is on the hill of the same name and overlooks the village: immersed in greenery amidst vineyards, this thousand-year-old parish church, with its Greek-cross plan, has for centuries preserved the tombs of the local noble Calini family.
