Description
What kind of wine it is
Louis Roederer Cristal Brut is the Champagne produced in Reims from a blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Crafted according to the strict rules of the Traditional Method, it is a structured wine with a fine and persistent mousse. The intense aromas recall citrus fruits, acacia and yellow fruit, interwoven with notes of bread crust, honey, dried fruit and delicate hints of iodine. On the palate, it offers a silky texture and a well-integrated effervescence, finishing with a long aftertaste marked by a vibrant salinity with a clear chalky character.
Where it comes from
The cuvée is made exclusively from the Grands and Premiers Crus of the Marne. The area, renowned for producing Champagne, boasts deep chalky and limestone soils, which ensure effective drainage and give the wine a distinct mineral tension. The climate combines continental and oceanic influences, with harsh winters and summer sunshine that favours the regular ripening of the grapes. Created in 1876 at the request of Tsar Alexander II, the label is now an absolute benchmark for the region and fully expresses its authentic viticultural vocation.
How it is produced
The harvest takes place exactly one hundred days after the vine flowers. During pressing, only the free-run must is selected, which immediately begins its first fermentation until spring, when the blend is defined. As required by the Traditional Method, the secondary fermentation takes place on traditional pupitres to allow for riddling. This is followed by a prolonged maturation characterised by a double resting period: six years of ageing in the cellar and a further eight months after disgorgement, essential steps to perfect its clear aromatic purity.
