Description
What kind of wine it is
Viña Gravonia Crianza Blanco is a still wine from Rioja produced by López de Heredia. This blend of Viura and Malvasia grapes presents a bright, pale golden colour. On the nose, it develops a complex bouquet with clear mineral and vegetal notes, with hints of flint and straw. The aromatic evolution continues, revealing fragrances of chamomile and wild white rose. On the palate, it is fruity and refined, enriched by a structured texture that reflects skilful ageing in wood, offering a dry, defined and elegant sip.
Where it comes from
The grapes come from the Viña Gravonia vineyard, located on the banks of the River Ebro in the area of Haro, in the heart of Rioja. Here, the altitude of 340 metres above sea level plays a crucial role in the quality of the bunches. The old vines benefit from perfect southern exposure, ensuring constant and optimal ripening. The combination of altitude and river influence creates the ideal microclimate to obtain a white wine of great tension and clarity, naturally predisposed to a long evolution over time.
How it is produced
Vinification begins with total destemming, followed by fermentation conducted exclusively by indigenous yeasts. Maturation continues for six years in oak barrels, enriching the structure and character of the wine. During ageing, two rackings per year are carried out to promote aromatic cleanliness. Clarification is done with fresh egg white and the final stage involves no filtration. This approach results in an unfiltered white capable of expressing great finesse and intact organoleptic complexity.
History and Curiosities
Born on the banks of the Ebro, Viña Gravonia Blanco 2017 has its roots in the ancient Viña Zaconia vineyard, whose grapes once produced sweet botrytised nectars. Today, the historic R. López de Heredia winery crafts this exceptional dry wine, the result of six years of ageing in oak. Fermented with indigenous yeasts and unfiltered, it offers an elegant mineral bouquet enriched with delicate notes of chamomile. This rare and multi-award-winning vintage guarantees extraordinary longevity, revealing a fruity profile perfect for haute cuisine.

Don Rafael fell in love with the region and especially the area around Haro, the mythical capital of the Rioja Alta region. He observed that there was a magical combination of soil and climate that would offer the perfect environment for producing wine that would eventually become world famous. Around 1877 he began the design and construction of the complex that is today known as the López de Heredia bodega (winery), the oldest in Haro and one of the first three bodegas in the Rioja region.
For over a century our emotions have been rooted in our love and passion for this land and its harvest. We cherish our heritage, and this combination of love and the rigorous quality standards we apply, have become our trademarks and remain our maxim for today and the future.
