Description
Type of wine
Illivio Livio Felluga is a still white wine with a protected designation of origin from the Colli Orientali del Friuli, created from a blend that combines Chardonnay, Picolit and Pinot Bianco. Vinified with fermentation and ageing on the lees in small French oak barrels, this wine is distinguished by a structured, complex and elegant profile. The bouquet, rich in fruity, floral and spicy notes, blends on the palate with a lively acidity, closing with a finish of marked mineral character.
Origin
This wine originates in the Colli Orientali del Friuli, a premier region indissolubly linked to the history and oenological expertise of Livio Felluga. The vineyards take root in flysch soils, consisting of ancient marl and sandstone of Eocene origin. This geological matrix represents the ideal environment for achieving a defined and elegant aromatic expression. The interaction between the hillside slopes and the nature of the soil results in a pleasant taste tension, capable of offering an impeccable balance between volume and a distinctive local savouriness.
Production process
The production process begins with a manual harvest to preserve the integrity of the bunches. After destemming and a short maceration, the grapes undergo soft pressing. The settled must ferments at a controlled temperature in small French oak barrels, where it undergoes full malolactic fermentation. This is followed by ageing on the lees in the same barrels for approximately ten months, which gives the wine a smooth texture and complex aromas of croissant, melted butter and toasted pine nuts. A further nine months of resting in temperature-controlled rooms completes the harmony, revealing elegant hints of graphite on the finish.
History and curious facts
Created in 1998 by his children for the eighty-fifth birthday of the head of the family, Illivio is a vibrant tribute to the “Patriarch”. This white wine admirably blends strength and elegance, reflecting the vocation of the Colli Orientali. Recognisable by the iconic label with the geographical map, which since 1956 has distinguished the oenological tradition of Livio Felluga.
